The supply of sustainable aviation fuel in the European Union almost increased sixfold in 2025, reaching 1.1 million tonnes. This growth demonstrates the rapid expansion in the use of this alternative across European air transport.

The volume supplied exceeded the mandatory 2% target set by European regulations. The result indicates that the sector surpassed the minimum threshold in the first period assessed, although the transition will depend on continued supply and production capacity.

The adoption of these fuels forms part of efforts to reduce aviation’s climate impact. Future developments should be considered in light of European targets, costs for operators and passengers, and the investment required to increase production.
